Compaq Mini AV LED Projector from buy.com and X10 receiver and Transmitter Review

February 20, 2012
By

I bought the X10 Transmitter (AV and VGA) and Reciever for on X10.com a year ago and is working great. I recently also bough the Compaq Mini AV LED Projector on buy.com …for some nice price comparisons on high end multimedia proejctors check out www.juggle.com This is kinda a review of the Projector. Please ask me any question if u have any.

Hi guys this is just the start for my budget home theater. So far got two jamo horn styled bookshelf speakers and yamaha rx-v667 7.2 channel receiver. Have plans to build a 7.2 system slowly with comparatively small yet quality speakers. The setup is in my bed room. Got a 22″ HD monitor will upgrade later on. Please comment what you think of this small setup. Don’t forget to rate

  6. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 10:28 am

@MrFlyingDogg it was around 10 – 50 ANSI lumens. Yup thats rite 10-50 ANSI lumens..thats why it was so dull…

  7. MrFlyingDogg on February 20, 2012 at 11:05 am

How many lumens does that thing have?

  8. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 11:48 am

@newstream2010 Lights were all turned off during the day and i tried the same during night but was not too bright :|

  9. newstream2010 on February 20, 2012 at 11:55 am

You should have turned off the light….I bet it looks crispy in the dark!

  10. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 12:40 pm

@zammykid Yup the quality is better during the night times or dark rooms thats what I concluded as far as I remember…the wii display is also dull coz it was during day time…its much better during night but still eyestraining

  11. zammykid on February 20, 2012 at 1:12 pm

@ranjeesh Sorry. Must Just Be My Xbox Being Better Quality Or Somthing. Also If You Notice… The Wii Is A Better Screen Quality Than The PC Even Though The PC View Is Hard To Judge As There Was light.

  12. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 2:05 pm

@zammykid The projection was same when I used both the receiver and direct connection. The brightness (or dullness) cannot get effected by the wirelessness :P only quality / resolution effects….

The projector can ofcourse be used without a wireless transmitter but I dont think any change in quality should be expected.

  13. zammykid on February 20, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Hey, Everybody! I Got The Same Projector. It’s Only Going To Be Dull If You Use That Crappy X10.com Reciever. Thats Making The Signal Not Get Through As Well. If You Plus The Computer Straight Into The Projector It Will Be 10 Times Brighter Then That! If You Wanna Do It Wirelessly The Your Going To Have To Use A Reciever That Costs Approximatly $200 (£130). Its Much Better Quality!

  14. jinzi9999 on February 20, 2012 at 2:19 pm

God, thisPj really has a very very low brightness, How can it be used at home?
    Toy, expensive toy!

  18. netofujarte on February 20, 2012 at 4:39 pm

…Can you use a tripod for it?

  19. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 5:23 pm

@metallerium This projetor has very bad brightness…I had everything off in the night time ..but still too dull..very stressful to the eyes…

  20. metallerium on February 20, 2012 at 5:38 pm

you have much light there or is really that projector dont hav much power….

  21. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I had a very complex setup for connecting to the laptop. I would suggest going for some other projector if you plan to connect computer so that it is simple. You can connect the laptop or pc but its very complex and needs buying of lot of equipment.

  22. GDMrecords on February 20, 2012 at 6:07 pm

what kind of cable do i use to connect to my laptop please? and thank you

  23. ranjeesh on February 20, 2012 at 6:50 pm

I dont remember but it can go till 52″ I think with visible quality.

  24. chshaw87 on February 20, 2012 at 7:15 pm

i’ve used the YPAO setup and love it. it works a treat but it seems to be something to do with the many settings the amp boasts and the subs settings. i’ve tried messing with the crossover hz and sub level on the amp and sub, and someone suggested that the sub level is too high and it cuts out because it’s too much for it too handle. turned it down and it worked a treat…for a while then cut out again. sent it to richersounds and they had it tested for 4 days and found no problem. any help?

  25. chshaw87 on February 20, 2012 at 7:36 pm

just one thing though, i’ve had problems with my eltax atomic subwoofer. i know it’s a level entry and basic one but it has done the job and done a great job at that. only, it has been cutting out sparingly and not isolated to any input/decoder. playing tv through an optical cable or mp3′s on my ps3 through hdmi, it cuts outs..the bass goes and it’s noticeable. i then turn the vol up and the bass pops (and makes a like scratching noise) and then kicks back in. any thoughts, any owners?

  26. chshaw87 on February 20, 2012 at 8:35 pm

i love my rxv 667! this is my second yamaha av receiver and i can’t get over the amount of options and settings and inputs it has! it is a beauty and a must for anyone. i had a sony and other another one before i traded them in for this and i have been thoroughly pleased. and it’s got 6 hdmi’s and is future proof; 3d tv ready.

I can’t remember but it’s not Bob Ross, it’s Don Ross. Sorry, everyone!!!

  28. xxsekoxx on February 20, 2012 at 9:45 pm

@xxsekoxx I’m running this receiver, with a full 7.2 surround sound setup. My center, surround, surround back, and sub speakers are Focal Sib Cub’s. My front left and right speakers are Klipsch – Icon 6-1/2″ 2-Way Floor Speakers Kf-26. And finally, my second sub-woofer is an (oldie but goodie) 12″ Miller & Kreisel VX-4. And i cant forget my Samsung 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV UN55B8000. hmmmm All this talk has led me to go and watch Transformers 3! Cheers.

  29. xxsekoxx on February 20, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Call me stupid, call me slow.. but it took me a year of owning this receiver to figure out why my $800 subwoofer sounded like crap. It was loud but not booming loud like it can be. My other sub ( yes two subs ) sounded OK but it was brand new so i didnt know what it was capable of. Anyway, i ran the ypao to calibrate everything at first setup. I recently did it again because of new speakers i got and found that it had the subwoofer db level turned all the way down! Now my house shakes!

  30. nicscola on February 20, 2012 at 11:17 pm

@kingkrawler what is the name of that song?? Awesome

  31. kingkrawler on February 21, 2012 at 12:04 am

  33. petrucius on February 21, 2012 at 12:58 am

The V667 is an awesome receiver, man! I have mine for only a few weeks and I’m totally amazed. And that is with an entry level speakers (S426 5.0). I hope to upgrade my system with a C407 pair for a 7.1 setup. But that the Yamaha is just a kickazz receiver!
By the way, the banana plugs you use are Nakamichi, am I right? :)

  34. electrotech555 on February 21, 2012 at 1:01 am

hi mate… i have the same amp, do you get any overheating issues when driving it hard????

  37. chshaw87 on February 21, 2012 at 1:57 am

that’s a decent setup man. i’ve getting mine sometime this week. my sony strd h810 was playing up so decided to get this yamaha model. i can’t wait. on screen menu’s, yamaha’s easier to navigate, great sound. should be good. do you own a wii? can you put a component cable from the wii through this and just have a hdmi lead to tv?

  39. silviaks90 on February 21, 2012 at 3:10 am

  44. andyj34 on February 21, 2012 at 4:00 am

Just bought the same amplifier yesterday … for some odd reason my mission sub-woofer is not coming through?? Other than that, a great amp …

  45. LordSod on February 21, 2012 at 4:22 am

lol don’t worry…. missed the big bright blue writing on the amp saying “HDMI”.

  46. LordSod on February 21, 2012 at 4:52 am

Hi, this sounds really good mate. I am looking at doing something similar for my room with the PC. I like the amp and the speakers will be B&W’s. I was wondering what you are using to connect your PC to the amp? Thanks!
